Mara Lion

Mara Lion

When we found this beautiful male lion on the Mara he was flanked by a partially eaten dead hippo that had been killed the night before. A few lionesses also remained close. I cannot imagine what that takedown must have been like. It was also curious to me why a hippo would be so isolated from water and in the middle of the grassy Serengeti. Prides with large numbers of lions are referred to as “Super Prides”. These prides of cats are capable of taking down much larger game. Large game also feeds the increased number of mouths in a Super Pride. - Kim Diment
