Blues Brothers

My favorite place for seeing black bears is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. When visiting the Tahquamenon Falls area it is not uncommon to have a mother bear cross the road with her little ones. The reference for “Blues Brothers” comes from the Oswald Bear Ranch in Newberry. It is a great place for seeing bears of all shapes and sizes. These two little guys had been orphaned and were newcomers to the ranch when I was there. Today they are much bigger characters.

Bears do love blueberries. In fact, the late summer months provides bears with a variety of berry type fruit. Blackberries, serviceberries, wild raspberries are in addition to the low bush and high bush blueberries bears like to eat. Kim Diment
